Exxon Doubling Down on Dirty Fuels

Earlier this week, ExxonMobil’s Chief Executive Officer underscored that (surprise, surprise) they are defending the same failed energy policies of the past. At an annual shareholders meeting in Dallas, Rex Tillerson predicted that any significant movement away from dirty fuels, included gasoline, diesel and coal “is probably 100 years away.”

Tillerson went out of his way to assert to the press that there is still a debate on climate change, claiming that the “all of those models have deficiencies in the way they’re constructed and the assumptions that go into the models and the limitations of the data.”

Earth to Tillerson: the international scientific community concluded over 2 years ago that climate change is happening, and it is past time we do something about it!

When you envision your company’s profits based on the status quo bottom lines – dragging your feet on change and actively employing obstructionist campaigns and false rhetoric are sensible business strategies; or at least they are at Exxon.
